Large quantities of unlicensed medications have been taken by Department of Health officials throughout a search of a home in Glengormley.

A man was interviewed by department officers about unlawfully importing and unlicensed impotence medicines by means of the internet.

The 47-year-old was likewise questioned about other medicine offences.

He will now be the topic of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.

The search was carried out by the department's Medicines Regulatory Group.

Its senior enforcement office, Peter Moore, said: "It is vital that we get the message throughout that unlicensed medicines can be harmful.

"These kinds of items being offered, generally online, have actually gone through no quality control and there can be no assurance about their security.

"You merely do not understand what you are taking or the conditions these items were made in. More significantly, you do not know the result drugs like this might have on your health."
